Are you falling for it?
The Chicago Cubs put together an offensive explosion Wednesday evening, pounding the New Yorks Mets with 16 runs on only 13 hits (the Mets committed a season-high 4 errors) in a 16-4 rout at Wrigley.
It was the Cubs’ second straight win.
Cubs’ starter Zack Davies went 4 innings, giving up 2 runs, and was thus ineligible for the win. Fellow starter Alec Mills came in and pitched 3 scoreless innings to get the win.
Javy Baez was the offensive star for the Cubs, belting a Grand Slam in the 6th off reliever Trevor Hildenberger. David Bote added 4 RBIs in the blowout.
The win follows an unholy trend for the Cubs over the past couple of seasons – basically “using up” all of their runs in one game and reverting to anemic offense for long stretches. So while it’s fun see an offensive night like last night, would it be too much to ask for a little consistency?
We’ll see…
