Comedy Shrine, MISH MASH Adventures, and Virtual Bites Coming to the Mall this Fall
Fox Valley Mall, a three-story shopping center serving generations of Aurora/Naperville-area visitors, today announced three new tenants expected to open this fall: Comedy Shrine, MISH MASH Adventures and Virtual Bites. Altogether, these venues will occupy nearly 30,000 square feet of space at Fox Valley Mall and provide a welcome addition for residents looking for extraordinary entertainment experiences and new food-to-go options.
“We’re very proud to be able to introduce these new venues to our guests,” says Scott Samson, Senior General Manager for Fox Valley Mall. “Despite the difficulties this year has presented, the fact that venues of this size and importance to the community will be ready to open their doors this fall makes it clear that the Fox Valley 2.0 vision is not only what the community wants, but it’s a vision that business owners are willing to invest in and wholeheartedly embrace. Over the past year, Fox Valley Mall has welcomed a number of new and returning tenants, including Pandora, and today, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Comedy Shrine, MISH MASH Adventures and Virtual Bites.”
- Comedy Shrine: Expected to open this fall, the new 14,000-square-foot Comedy Shrine, which has just completed its build-out, will be located on Level 2 at the southwest entrance of Fox Valley Mall, between Macy’s and JCPenney. The new venue has three theaters; the largest theater will be dedicated to stand-up acts with a 400-person capacity, the second will focus on improv events, and the third will house experimental theater offerings ranging from comedic sketch shows to both original and touring plays, variety shows, one-man comedy acts, and even murder mysteries. During daytime hours, Comedy Shrine will offer a variety of classes from stand-up and improv for children and teens to comedy writing classes and open-mic nights. There will also be an interactive comedy museum with audio and video exhibits showcasing a vast collection of memorabilia, a comfortable lounge area with a fully stocked bar, a retail store with logoed merchandise, and six-month and one-year membership options. To protect the health and safety of its employees and visitors, when Comedy Shrine opens, guests will be asked to wear masks, and social distancing between groups of attendees will be strictly enforced. “We love the changes that are taking place at Fox Valley Mall, including the incredible Center Park and brand-new Treehouse that have recently been unveiled at the center,” says David Sinker, Comedy Shrine owner. “The amount of space Comedy Shrine now has at Fox Valley Mall, combined with the creative out-of-the-box way the mall is being transformed, gives us an incredible venue for our guests and a renewed ability to attract the top names in comedy to our locale.”
- MISH MASH Adventures: The new 11,454-square-foot MISH MASH Adventures, opening this fall, will be located in the center of the upper level at Fox Valley Mall. The first concept of its kind in North America, MISH MASH will offer guests an incredible urban adventure featuring a variety of themed, multi-sensory experiences that challenge both the mind and body. Teams of two to six players will work together to complete as many rooms as possible, in the shortest timeframe possible, while aiming for the highest score. To do so, each team will use their Room Key to open doors of their choosing, leading to challenges that make them think, move, breathe or act. Those that complete all the rooms will take one final test in the ultimate Challenge Room to push themselves to their physical and mental best. To protect the health and safety of its visitors and employees, MISH MASH staff sanitizes each challenge room once per hour, hand sanitizers are located throughout the facility, and all guests must undergo a temperature check before they begin play. Guests can book now with special pre-launch pricing on the MISH MASH Adventures website at https://www.mishmashadventures.com.
“At MISH MASH, we’re creating a completely new way for friends and families to have fun, learn the value of teamwork and of course, challenge themselves in a unique multi-sensory way,” says Jim Upchurch, Managing Partner at MISH MASH. “We needed a location that believed in our vision and was positioning itself to become an entertainment destination, not just a shopping mall, which is just what we found in Fox Valley Mall. It’s been a great partnership so far and we look forward to our joint success.”
- Virtual Bites: A brand-new tenant at Fox Valley Mall, the 4,056-square-foot Virtual Bites will be a “ghost kitchen” designed solely for professional food preparation. The facility is the brainchild of Ty Brown, one of the area’s most notable local entrepreneurs and owner of Pee Bee & Jays Café, a purveyor of gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches located on the Upper Level of the mall near Center Park. The Virtual Bites “virtual food court,” expected to open on the Lower Level near Macy’s in October, will allow Brown and his team of culinary creatives to introduce a number of restaurant brands with completely virtual menus, including Pee Bee & Jays Café, Yea! Bagel, Burrito Bro, Frushi Sushi, Grannies Nashville Hot Chicken, Dog on Burger, Fitdish, and Delish Sweet Tea. Customers will view the offerings and order online, then pick up their food curbside at the mall or have it delivered directly to their doorstep. To learn more, visit the Virtual Bites website at https://www.eatvirtualbites.com/.
“COVID-19 taught us all some valuable lessons, including the importance of having a wide variety of take-out and delivery food options at our fingertips,” says Brown, owner of Virtual Bites. “Some ghost kitchens in other locations simply facilitate easier delivery of name-brand foods. But here in Aurora, our shoppers love supporting local businesses, something Fox Valley Mall has both recognized and championed. So, as we prepare to open the Virtual Bites ghost kitchen, we are also planning to launch a number of exclusive local menus that will be available only through this new online pickup or delivery format. It’s what we need right now, and it’s a concept that people who appreciate fine dining, yet have busy on-the-go lifestyles will appreciate well into the future.”
