Enjoy the 2020 Bluff City Cemetery Walk starting Sunday, September 27 at 9am

The 33rd Annual Bluff City Cemetery Walk will be available to the general public starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020. It will be available to watch on demand until October 4, 2020. Click here for the Elgin History Museum’s You Tube channel.

Performing the tour virtually was a very tough decision, but the safety of the volunteers and guests had to be first priority. The Museum is excited to go virtual so a wider audience can experience the walk. Be sure and tell your friends!

The actors were filmed at the beautiful backdrop of Bluff City Cemetery. The featured character this year are:

    • Dr. Joseph Tefft: Elgin’s first doctor, and first mayor of Elgin, serving five terms
    • General George McClure: A Brigadier General in the War of 1812
    • Paul Kemler: Ran the Washington Hotel for 17 years and served as a city alderman
    • Peter Burritt: Land owner and dairy farmer
    • Ruth Ann Kimball: Part of one of Elgin’s founding families and a citizen of Elgin for 61 years
    • Also hear about the Elgin typhoid epidemic of 1916!

The purpose of this event is to provide insight into Elgin’s unique residents and history, enjoy the beauty of the Bluff City Cemetery grounds and educate people about the importance of cemetery preservation. Volunteers at the Elgin History Museum organize this much anticipated event.
