    Sat., Oct. 26 – ROME / SORRENTO

As the sun begins to rise we arrive in Europe where we change planes for the connecting flight to Rome. After customs and passport control, we’ll meet our Tour Manager, the wonderful Rosi Tremesberger, who will accompany us throughout our vacation. Sun., Oct. 27 – SORRENTO (Amalfi Coast)

The magic of Italy comes alive today as we tour the famed Amalfi Coast. Along our route we’ll visit Ravello, the “pearl” of the Amalfi Coast. This is probably the most elegant of towns on the coast and host to a selection of important guests such as Greta Garbo, Winston Churchill, and the Kennedy family. Next we come to magnificent Positano, a quaint town located in a picturesque crescent, perched upon the craggy cliffs of the steeply terraced hills. Our final stop is the town of Amalfi, a small romantic town of all white houses built on rocks facing the Gulf of Salerno. Returning to Sorrento this evening, we’ll observe the process of preparing the Southern Italian specialty of Limoncello of course enjoy a tasting.  (B)

Mon., Oct. 28 – SORRENTO / SAN GIMIGNANO  (Pompeii)

We depart Sorrento today and make our way to Pompeii, buried by the enormous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.  Amazingly the streets, homes and stores are still perfectly intact; in what had been one of the most active and splendid Roman centers, life came to a permanent standstill. Exploring the excavated city on foot provides outstanding historical evidence of the art, customs, trades and everyday life. After our visit to Pompeii, we’ll travel over the Autostrada Del Sole through the countryside of Umbria and into the beautiful landscape of Tuscany to  medieval San Gimignano, the most gorgeous hill town in Tuscany, where we’ll have dinner at our hotel.  (B,D)

Tues., Oct. 29 – SAN GIMIGNANO

    (Tuscan Countryside and Wine Tasting)

Today we journey to Siena, one of the most famous and beautiful Italian hill towns.  An introductory tour of Siena will introduce us to the city’s fan shaped Piazza del Campo and the Palazzo Pubblico, the 13th-century Gothic town hall.  We will also visit the Piazza del Duomo with its 12th-century Cathedral, a spectacular mixture of sculpture, paintings, and Pisan-influenced architecture. As we return to San Gimignano we’ll visit a typical Tuscan winery for dinner and tasting where we’ll learn about the grape, the nose, food pairings and most importantly, which glass to use!  (B,D)

Wed., Oct. 30 – SAN GIMIGNANO (Florence)

This morning we travel to the great Renaissance city of Florence.  Our tour will begin a visit to the Galleria dell’Accademia to see Michelangelo’s famous statue of David.  Afterward, we’ll explore the heart of the city with a visit to the magnificent Cathedral adorned with green, red and white marble, and see the nearby Baptistry with its famous bronze doors, most notably the Gate to Paradise.  From here, we’ll see the Piazza della Signoria with its wonderful backdrop formed by the Old Palace’s powerful presence, before ending with a visit to the unforgettable Ponte Vecchio, the oldest surviving bridge in the city, built in 1345. The remainder of the day is free to explore Florence at your leisure. (B,D)

Thur., Oct. 31– SAN GIMIGNANO / VENICE

This morning we travel to Venice, a treasure trove of art and architecture rising up out of the waters of the Venetian Lagoon. Our sightseeing begins with a walking tour that will offer a view of the Bridge of Sighs, the covered bridge that links the Doge’s Palace to the old prisons from where Casanova was said to have made his fantastic escape. Here, we’ll get our first glimpse of the Piazza San Marco, home to the Campanile, a 325-foot-high bell tower that provides an unforgettable view of the city.  Free time will be set aside for shopping and to explore Venice on your own.  Be sure to visit Harry’s Bar, a legendary 1930’s bar known for its Bellini cocktails and celebrity clientele.  (B)

    Fri., Nov. 1 – VENICE / ROME

The morning is at leisure in Venice to enjoy a cappuccino, take a gondola ride, or simply relax at St. Mark’s Square.  This afternoon we’ll board a high-speed train for the Italian capital of Rome.  On arrival we’ll check in to our hotel this evening we’ll enjoy dinner in Shay’s style…with dinner at the best Irish Pub in the world, Scholar’s Lounge. (B,D)

    Sat., Nov. 2 – ROME

Our day begins as we visit the Vatican Museums, including the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel where we’ll find masterpieces by Botticelli, and above all the Genesis and Last Judgment by Michelangelo. Although we may see hundreds of priceless works of art, none is as moving as the sorrowful Pieta, Michelangelo’s masterpiece in white marble at St. Peter’s Basilica.  This afternoon, on our sightseeing drive of Rome we’ll see the Colosseum, the Forum, the Spanish Steps, the Palatine, and the world-famous Trevi Fountain where King Neptune’s Tritons guard the sparkling waters of Rome’s most beloved monument.   (B)

This morning we say ‘arrivederci’ to Rome and travel to Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in preparation for our return journey. No better time to reflect on of our Italian Shaynanigans vacation that will last a lifetime.(B,I)                                         *** Welcome Home ***
