Get Your Fall Foliage Fix in Lake Geneva

The fall season is the perfect time to visit the Lake Geneva, WI area.

Just as winter begins to creep in, trees will be dropping their green hues for brilliant shades of orange, yellow and red. The change of colors is simply breathtaking. Smaller highways, back roads, boat cruises and hot air balloon rides provide gorgeous foliage views as well as a quaint atmosphere dotted with small towns, unique shops and restaurants, orchards and festivals.

Although it can vary based on the first cold fronts from one year to another, the beautiful show of colors peak in the Lake Geneva area early to late October. Whether you choose to time your fall visit for peak time or anytime now through November, the Lake Geneva area will not disappoint. The nearby recreation and resort area is bursting with seasonal activities and events for all ages and interests. So many that you may need to stay longer than a weekend or visit more than once during fall.

For Festival Fans
Lake Geneva’s Oktoberfest (October 6 & 7) is a family friendly event with live entertainment, a free pumpkin giveaway, bounce houses, pony rides, cider donuts, a craft fair, a beer tent featuring Hoffbrau brews, and even a Stein holding competition. Lake Lawn Resort’s Fall Family Festival (October 5 – 8) also offers fall themed food, music and activities. Wilmot Mountain holds an Epic Fall Festival (October 13) with a 5k race, games and fun for the entire family. Lake Geneva Canopy Tours Pumpkin Drop & Fall Festival (October 27 and 28) promises plenty of action, adventure and entertainment as participants zoom down a 1,200-foot racing zipline with pumpkin in hand to aim at a large bulls eye target below.

For Hikers and Bikers
Take in the colors by hiking a piece of the 21-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path for close up views of the multi-million dollar estates that have graced its shores since the 19th century. You will pass through yards of estates owned by Wrigley’s, Swift’s, and Selfridges. Bikers will get their exercise while enjoying the colors at the Adventure Center at The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa (bike rental) or Lake Geneva Canopy Tours (bring your own bike) for biking. Both locations offer about 9 miles of trails ranging from beginner to expert. 
For Adventure Seekers
Soar through the trees ziplining with Lake Geneva Canopy Tours or Aerial Adventures. Or fly high aboard a hot air balloon with Lake Geneva Balloon Company for a ride over the scenic Lake Geneva area.

For Cruisers
Get on the water for a ride aboard one of the Lake Geneva Cruise Line boats, a great way to see the colors as well as the estates that ring the lake. Or take a cruise on a scooter with a rental or tour offered by Scoot Jockeys. Riding a scooter is easy and does not require any previous experience.

For Foodies
Take a ride on the East Troy Railroad to enjoy the beautiful countryside with a stop at the Elegant Farmer for all the goodness of homemade, fresh-picked and delicious. Their award-winning apple pie baked in a paper bag is mouthwatering and has been featured on Food Network. Meat lovers will find Lake Geneva Country Meats selection of handcrafted sausages and bratwurst bursting with flavor. The meat purveyors have won hundreds of awards in state and national competitions.

Visit The Creamery at Highfield Farm for the very best artisan farmstead cheese products. Or pick your own apples at the Apple Barn and taste your way through the bakery, country store and winery that specializes in fruit wines made from fresh, non-grape fruits and berries.
