2018 Olympic gold medalist and Chicagoland native Kendall Coyne of the U.S. women’s hockey team will appear this Sunday at the Chicago Steel’s Celebration of Girls Hockey when the Steel take on Team USA (USA Hockey’s National Under-17 Team) at 3:05 p.m.
Coyne will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures with fans, as well as participate in a ceremonial puck drop and in-game promotions. Doors for the Steel Family Sunday game open at 2:00 p.m. Fans are invited to join the team on the ice for a post-game Skate with the Steel. Girls hockey players will take the ice with the Steel for the starting lineup and the national anthem. Other in-game promotions include Human Slingshot Bowling, trivia contests involving Coyne, Egg Russian Roulette and Musical Tires.
All girls hockey players and their families are eligible for a special offer from the Steel. Attack Preferred Tickets are available for just $12 ($16.75 value). Fans can visit steelgroups.com and enter password GIRLS2018 to take advantage of this offer.
The Steel Family Pack offer is also available for the game when purchased in advance—four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas (or waters) and four chuck-a-pucks starting at just $48.
Girls hockey registration within USA Hockey has grown over 25 percent in the past decade, and the recent successes of the U.S. Women’s National Team, including Coyne, have helped spark an all-time high interest in the women’s game. 2.9 million viewers tuned into NBCSN for the late night (10:00 p.m.- 1:15 a.m. CT) live broadcast of the women’s hockey gold medal showdown against Team Canada, marking the most-watched midnight-hour telecast in the network’s history.
Prior to Sunday’s home game against Team USA (U17), the Steel take on Team USA (U18) Friday and Saturday nights at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. Faceoff each night is set for 6:05 p.m. CT. Team USA, which combines its record from the U17 and U18 teams, is the only USHL team to date to clinch a berth in the 2018 USHL Clark Cup Playoffs. Steel games are carried live on Mixlr (free audio) and HockeyTV (iPPV). For more information, visit ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com/broadcast.
Fans can bring their own skates for the post-game Skate with the Steel or rent a pair from the Fox Valley Ice Arena for $4.
