GHC Craft Beer & Culinary Pairing Event

Geneva Historic Centre put on a great event last week.

While last year's event was a pub crawl, GHC decided to do something different for this year's event - a Beer and Culinary Pairing.  This event was the perfect opportunity to introduce the new brewing company, Penrose - featuring Belgian inspried beers - to Geneva. Penrose will be opening this November and everyone was excited to get a first taste. 

Also part of this event - The Herrington, Fiora’s, Villa Verone, Wildwood, and other restaurants.

Some of the pairings and food paired for our tasting: 

The Herrington served Risotto with duck confit, caramelized onion, cherry and wild mushroom. This dish was paired with the Belgian-style pale (with tropical fruit, clove and resiney aroma).

Fiora’s served Maryland crab cakes and paired it with the Belgin-style single (subtle floral hop layered with fruity/yeasty aroma).

Villa Verone served smoked salmon carpaccio drizzled with olive oil and capers, paired with the French-style saison (with citrus yeast and earthy notes).

Wildwood served pulled pork sliders with cherries, pecans and apples,  paired with a Belgian-style black ale (with an herbal, chocolatey flavor).

Then...there were desserts from “Trace of Indulgence”. And as you might know, I can’t say no to a cupcake on a stick!

I really appreciated the pairings - and could see how the right beer/meal combination really makes them both more delectible. And although the tent's heater broke down, everyone really enjoyed themselves.

I'm looking forward to future events hosted by the Geneva Historic Center. Who says history isn't fun? Well, yes - I agree, it always goes better with beer. Cheers!
