For 16 years, Geneva resident Chris Yovanovic has done just about any job in the restaurant industry, including dishwasher, waiter, bartender and general manager.

All that was missing was restaurant owner – an achievement the 32-year-old said he long had wanted to accomplish.

His goal was realized this month with the opening of White Stag Tavern, an English-American restaurant along East Main Street in the former Sugo Italian Ristorante building.

Yovanovic, who had scouted the Tri-Cities for a potential location, said he chose that site because of its size and proximity to vehicular traffic.

For two months this summer, crews worked seven days a week to revamp the space with a new bar, new kitchen and, among other features, new beer lines, Yovanovic said. It also includes a banquet room, pool table and dart board.

“I love it,” he said, sitting at the bar Monday afternoon. “It looks perfect.”

The bar opened for business this month. Yovanovic said he plans to open the restaurant within the next few weeks.

White Stag Tavern is serving American food but will begin offering British dishes – fish and chips, sausage rolls, steak and ale pie, and bangers and mash, for example – once the restaurant opens, he said.
