Downtown Madness set to hit Elgin in belly

Getting a jump on the hoopla surrounding the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament, the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin has launched “Downtown Madness,” an interactive promotion with restaurants and bars.

On Wednesday, the DNA unveiled its own version of March Madness in the form of a bracket tournament pitting not-necessarily-Sweet 16 dishes and drinks from downtown Elgin bars and restaurants against each other, with the public deciding the winner.

Starting Friday, Elgin food fans will be able to vote online and via social media for their favorite dish or drink in each of the eight matches.

First-round voting lasts from Friday through Monday, March 14. The Elite Eight winners will move on to a second round of voting slated for Wednesday, March 16, until Monday, March 21. The final four establishments tip off third-round voting Wednesday, March 23, through Monday, March 28. The championship game round of voting then takes place Wednesday, March 30, through Monday, April 4, with the winning establishment announced on Wednesday, April 6.
