Gibby’s Wine Den

The Rheinhessen region in Germany is known for its mineral-rich red slate soil that brings unique flavor and balance to the Rieslings of this area. The 2008 Fritz Riesling from Rheinhessen Germany ($15.95) is a Kabinett-style Riesling that is lively and bright with peach, apricot and apple flavors as well as the mineral notes for which the region is known.  An excellent value, it is the perfect go-to Riesling for any night of the week.

Artisan Pinot Noirs at affordable prices are few and far between, but the 2007 Siduri Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon ($28.95) hits the mark beautifully.  Though the 2007 vintage was challenged by wet weather, the growers at Siduri were vigilant in their efforts and extremely selective.  As a result this Pinot Noir is light and fresh with juicy fruit flavors of plum and currant.  It is at once delicate and impressive.

Winemaker Cameron Hughes is making quite a name for himself as a sort of freelancer in the winemaking business. He is using the excess of grapes from esteemed wineries to make high quality wine and offer it at a bargain of a price.  One excellent example of this is the 2007 The Flying Winemaker Zinfandel. Outsourced from a well respected winery in Lodi, California, it is offered at Gibby’s for only $12.95. The grapes come from vineyards where some of the vines are 100 years old.  The low yield from these vines provides greater intensity in the dark fruit flavors and a remarkable amount of complexity and depth for an under $15 bottle of wine!

Geno’s Fine Wine & Spirits

Laughing Dog-Rocket Dog Rye IPA 6.9%ABV 62IBU’S OG. 1.062

The front of the beer, starts of with much of a piney leafy herbal resinous hoppy bittersweet citrusness. The hops, also give way to notes of citrus fruits such asfresh cut apricots, pungent grapefruit, tangy acidic peaches, lemon and orange andl ight undertones notes of mango and pineapple. The middle tastes of more masculine piney resinous hops being beautifully blended with spicy earthy ryed dryness. The middle back, also gives way to the balanced backbone of sweet and toasted malty caramel sweetness, as well as a touch of light bakers bready maltiness comes into play inthe middle back. The beer finishes with a very clean, smooth and velvety touch of carbonation over lapping the tongue, with a magnificent balance of piney juicy resinous slick hops, rye spiced sweet and tangy earthiness as well as a clean touch of sweet caramel bready malts to finish of this excellent beer.
