Neel Patel doesn't want to be just another liquor store owner.

Along with partner Hitesh Shah, Patel said he is looking at every facet of his new business to ensure customers receive the best service possible.

Besides its customer service motto, the new Otter Creek Wine & Spirits -- which opened in early July in Elgin's Otter Creek Shopping Center -- also has a focus on wine.

Free wine tastings, open to the public, are held every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and a vast and changing selection of wines will be offered on an ongoing basis based on customer demand, he said.

"We are adding wines every week, and replacing existing wines that are not good for the demographics," Patel said. "In three months, we should have a really good inventory."

Both Patel and Shah have day jobs in corporate management. Their wives, who both lost their employment last year due to the economic downturn, manage the store during the day.
