Chef Amaury Rosado has long intended to move his far East Side restaurant downtown. In September, he will, but not the way he expected.

Last year, Rosado announced that Chef Amaury's Epicurean Affair, his restaurant on Commons Drive, would move to the Elks Club building on Stolp Avenue. It was intended to be part of developer Steve Arwady's mixed-use development there, which both hoped would be open by now.

But Arwady confirmed this week that he is still struggling to secure financing for that project, and even if he closes on the building in September, he likely won't finish the development this year. That's too long for Rosado to wait.

His Commons Drive lease ran out in May, he said, and he's been staying there month to month.

So this week, Rosado said his current downtown restaurant, 33 West Trattoria on New York Street, will become the new Chef Amaury's. His last day on the far East Side will be Aug. 21, with a grand opening downtown on Sept. 1.

The new Chef Amaury's will become part of Arwady's Restaurant Row project, which also includes the Comfort Zone Barbecue, and will soon feature Upper Deck Pizza and Sandwiches, a new eatery from Bill Poss, owner of Luigi's Pizza on Prairie Street, and the Billy Goat Tavern, one of Chicago's most famous restaurants.
