After closing down last year, Chef James has brought his line of sandwiches back to downtown Geneva.

This week, James Gender reopened his formerly popular Chef James Place in a new location.

For five years, Gender operated his takeout deli restaurant in a storefront in the 500 block of South Third Street, just north of the Geneva Metra commuter rail station.

The restaurant gained notoriety locally for its assortment of soups, salads and sandwiches, and Chef James’ line of cheesesteak and hoagie sandwiches, in particular.

“Since I closed down, people have been asking constantly, ‘When are you bringing back the cheesesteaks?’” Gender said.

Gender also operated a local catering company, offering an array of choices for private events. But last year, Gender decided to close the shop in order to find a new location.
