A new spin on Italian at Napolitano's

A new South Elgin eatery is putting a spin on traditional Italian cuisine.

The menu at Napolitano's includes some popular Italian favorites, but chef and owner Juan Ortiz has recreated them in his own way.

"I wanted a unique menu that no one else offers," said Ortiz, who has worked as a chef in the kitchens of many restaurants and country clubs before finally getting an opportunity to open his own restaurant.

He described the menu as a fusion of Italian, Mediterranean and Latino cuisines. The menu is full of familiar Italian dishes, but Ortiz said many have Mediterranean and Latin flavors and ingredients.

"We use the same ingredients, just in different ways," Ortiz said.
