Fox Valley: Public input sought for St. Charles' comprehensive plan Public input sought for St. Charles' comprehensive plan ================================================================================ Kane County Chronicle on 08/30/2011 04:48:00 Residents are asked to bring themselves and their ideas to city hall Wednesday night as officials begin to plan for St. Charles’ future. The community’s input will help guide the city in its development of a new comprehensive plan, said Russell Colby, planning division manager. The current comprehensive plan was written in 1990 and was last significantly updated in 1996, he said. “A comprehensive plan is one of the city’s core documents,” he said. “When you look at the vision for how the city will develop over a 20-year period, we use that comprehensive plan to guide the decision-making process.” This plan could influence public infrastructure, zoning decisions and changes in land use. It may also provide a more detailed strategy for various areas in the city, such as downtown, Main Street and the east and west gateways along Kirk and Randall roads. Public input is important because the city needs direction during the plan’s development, Colby said. “We’re really trying to come up with one of the core issues the community would like to see addressed,” he said. Additional workshops are being scheduled for individual neighborhoods and the business community, he said, describing Wednesday’s meeting as the kickoff. Read More
