Rail safety enforcement in Elgin Thursday

The railroad crossing on Kimball Street here will be among numerous crossings in
the United States and 44 other countries where authorities today will be
emphasizing both driver and pedestrian safety.

Metra is participating with freight and commuter  railroads in observing
International Level Crossing Awareness Day  (ILCAD, www.ilcad.org).
ILCAD focuses on promoting safe behavior at and  around rail crossings through
education and enforcement activities,  including issuing tickets to motorists
and pedestrians who ignore rail  crossing protections, according to a press
release issued by the  organization.
