If the resolution passes the City Council, the ordinance would also make it a misdemeanor crime to possess or use synthetic drugs. The move comes after Karen Dobner’s 19-year-old son died in a high-speed single-car accident at Route 31 and Mooseheart Road in June. Synthetic marijuana blamed for Max Dobner’s death in the crash. “The Drug Enforcement Administration has determined that consumption of synthetic stimulants affect alertness, and have been linked to severe psychotic episodes, increased heart rates, panic attacks and hallucinations,” according to the proposed ordinance. The American Association of Poison Control Centers has reported 2,700 synthetic marijuana related calls to poison control in 49 states. Read More
