General Lynch Memorial Dedication at Bluff City Cemetery

The Sons of the Union Veterans are honoring the life and service of Civil War General William Lynch.

The Elgin native fought at Shiloh and Fort Donelson before being promoted to Brigadier General. He led troops in a series of Louisiana battles with General Sherman. General Lynch came back to Elgin after the Civil War and died a dozen years later of his injuries at the Battle of the Yellow Bayou.

Jim Zingales, a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans local chapter, is organizing the event and fundraising for the memorial stone to be installed on General Lynch's grave. The dedication will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 am at Bluff City Cemetery, located at 945 Bluff City Blvd., in Elgin. A Civil War Artillery re-enactment group will be present along with speeches from Elgin leaders and musical performances. The event is FREE and open to the public.
