In its mission to expand and serve as a be-all community arts resource, the St. Charles Arts Commission has lifted the curtain on its inaugural “neXt” pop-up gallery at the Shelby building in St. Charles.

The idea for doing these pop-up galleries isn’t a new one, but it is one worth revisiting, said council director Elizabeth Bellaver. Before they were ever called pop-up galleries, Bellaver said it wasn’t uncommon to host temporary galleries within the community in empty building or other available spaces. Using that experience, they hope to make these neXt galleries a unique way to bring art to the community.

After an invite from Laura Spicer, neXt gallery committee chairwoman, Chicago art dealer Monique Meloche of Monique Meloche Gallery will be guest curator for the gallery, which will be open through June 26.
