State Rep. Tim Schmitz, R-Batavia, Wednesday announced his intention to run for re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives.

Schmitz, who has represented the Tri-Cities and northern Kane County since 1999, said his “conservative fiscal record and accomplishments ... is reflective of the expectations of the residents in our community.”

The Batavia resident presently represents the 49th House District. Under a new legislative map drawn up by state Democrats, the new district would be the 65th. That map is being challenged in court by Illinois Republicans.

“This past year brought many challenges for us as we worked our way through tough economic times and a difficult budget process. We still have a lot more work ahead of us,” Schmitz said.

“As Deputy Republican Leader, I was honored to work with our caucus as we fought off massive spending increases and demands for more borrowing without sufficient revenue to pay for either,” he said.
