Kane County nonprofits utilize Facebook, Twitter
Downtown St. Charles was recently filled with well-wishers welcoming home U.S. Army Specialist Tyler Jones after a yearlong stint in Afghanistan.
Sarah Giachino, co-founder of Fox Valley Troop Support, attributed the large turnout to the group using such social networking tools as Facebook and Twitter to let people know about the celebration.
“We wanted to reach a segment of supporters that may not necessarily obtain their information through newspapers or magazines,” Giachino said. “It gives us a tool to reach out to that segment that depends on social media.”
More and more nonprofit groups such as Fox Valley Troop Support are using Facebook, Twitter and other social media tools to promote their causes.
Fox Valley Troop Support sends care packages to troops deployed overseas and provides support to their families. On its Facebook page, the group recently posted a plea for financial assistance so it could send more care packages to troops.
