Aurora dog is nation's most obedient

Aurora resident Brenda Rivera has been training dogs and competing in obedience trials for 20 years, and she's finally hit the jackpot.

Rivera's 7-year-old border collie, Pilot, has been named the 2010 Obedience Dog of the Year by the American Kennel Club, and Rivera will receive the award from Purina on Saturday in New York City. She is traveling there with her daughter, Abby Schuler, who is an Aurora alderman.

The dogs aren't actually invited to the award dinner, but Rivera tells the SouthtownStar she hasn't let Pilot know that yet.
