Heartland Blood Centers is reporting an urgent need for blood donors, after this week’s blizzard cut drastically into regular blood collections. Heartland was closed Wednesday, losing a full day of blood collections. On Tuesday, collections were low because of the weather, and several donation efforts were canceled on Thursday, as well, blood bank officials said.

Heartland needs about 600 volunteer blood donors every day in order to meet the transfusion demands of patients in their 38 member hospitals throughout Kane, DuPage and other area counties.

Eligible donors are asked to make an appointment by calling 800-7 TO GIVEend_of_the_skype_highlighting. Donors also can visit www.heartlandbc.org for a complete listing of blood drives throughout the area.
